A trip to the Queen of Hills – Shimla!

The queen of hills – Shimla is one of the most popular tourist destinations of India and a favorite hill station of many. Standing at the altitude of 2276m with the snow-capped Himalayan backdrop and cultural colonial buildings offers a treat to the travelers to explore Shimla.

It was the first time for me to explore outside the borders of Maharashtra. And so the journey was too exciting. The journey started with a startling Delhi tour and then we proceeded to wander in the winds of extravagant Shimla.

Time to reach Shimla from Delhi

It takes around 8 hrs to reach Shimla from Delhi, so many travelers stop at the “The Planned City” – Chandigarh. Also, the 8 hrs journey is a little fascinating due to the ghat region. Although some people have problems with that ghat route (even I vomited during the journey), it was all okay, because the serene view you get to look at when you reach Shimla is breathtaking.

Delhi to Chandigarh takes around 5 hours and Chandigarh to Shimla takes another 3 hours. We proceeded straight to Shimla and covered the magnificent Chandigarh on our return trip.

The best time to visit Shimla:

During summers this cold place is awesome place to wander.

Although many travelers visit here during winters to experience the most gorgeous snowfall. Also, many snow activities like skiing are very active during these times where the temperature reaches -2 degrees sometimes.

As we entered the borders of Shimla, the weather started cooling. The houses in the city were very unique – The road welcomed the 2nd floor, and the 1st floor was down the mountains because many houses were built on the hills. This place gave phenomenal old city vibes and that made me even more zealous to explore this city the next day.

Places to visit in Shimla:

We started our next awesome day by visiting Kufri, a place with excellent panoramic views and beautiful weather. Kufri’s delight increases in winters because of snowfall, where skiing is an interesting activity many travelers like to do.

The Kufri fun campus was accessible through horse rides, it was my first time to enjoy a thrilling journey like this. Horses rode us through the steep and muddy roads to the top of the place. It was a fun place to spend your quality time. We clicked some amazing pictures in the Pahadi outfits (the local outfits). We enjoyed tasty momos at the top getting dissolving in the Kufri’s mesmerizing atmosphere. There are various fun activities like bungee jumping, mirror maze, snow skiing which I enjoyed a lot.

It’s an old picture. I was in 6th grade, when I visited this place.

Mall Road

Later we enjoyed our time at the Mall road of Shimla. The street is lined up with various restaurants, clubs, and shops. It’s the perfect place to enjoy shopping and to eat delicious foods. The street offers an exciting atmosphere, I remember enjoying the entire evening there. Scandal Point and Kali Bari Temple are wonderful attractions housing in the street, which one can enjoy.

Every city has a famous market to explore the local city to the fullest, and the Mall road is the one in Shimla.

Shimla Church

The famous Shimla church located on the Ridge of Shimla, at the Mall Road itself is a beautiful architectural and devotional church. It is visible from various places of Shimla and is the favorite destination of travelers. The yellow Church gives a magnificent look like a castle when it lights up in the night. I felt so peaceful and energetic when I visited this place.

The next day we proceeded to another fantastic destination – Manali. But leaving Shimla gave me goosebumps, I wanted to stay there for another day to enjoy the splendidness in the Shimla’s air, to explore some more places here, and to live the Shimla’s local life.
